September 2018 Schedule

Our fellow sailors lately have been VERY slow in getting photos back to us when they have been responsible for photography, so we have no recent sailing pictures from our boat. So instead, here is a picture of the intrepid Helga on a nearly vertical section of trail in the Catskills. We are climbing Indian Head Mountain, about 5 miles north of Woodstock, NY, as the crow flies.

9/02     Local sailing
9/03     Local sailing

9/15     Sailing with David, Barry, and Pat. We are hoping Barry and Pat will be new friends; welcome!
9/16     Sailing with David, Barry and Pat

9/25 - 9/27    Jim on the boat performing maintenance. The fridge/freezer have been down for a while, so they are the main objective. The main bilge pump also runs continuously, so it's switched off right now (there are two backups), so that is also a list topper. Endless list of other stuff that needs attention.

9/29    A morning sail, and then to Dan's in Menlo Park to visit some old friends, including Heather from Australia.

9/30    Boat chores

  1. Wow what a fantastic sailing trip around the SFO bay with Jim and Helga in mid July!!! The Ference clan invaded the Green Rosetta. Anna Marie and I along with our children Ian, Ashley Marie,Austin, were welcomed with open arms by Captains Jim and Helga. We had a wonderful time cleaning barnacles, getting the generated started, and scrubbing the deck to earn our keep😀😀. We enjoyed the second none breakfasts cooked up by the Jim. Besides the breakfasts and other awesome meals there is nothing that beats the hospitality of the Green Rossetta. The wines and rum flowed easily and harmlessly making us smarter leading to great discussions!! Ian found the hobbit hole on the boat and Anna and I expereinced sleeping where only kings and queens sleep. We spent 5 wonderful nights on the boat listening the water lapping against the haul and rocking us to sleep. Had some great sleeps which had nothing to do with the rums. The children enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere and read many books and not needing to be glued to some electronic device. The boys got a chance to test the oars on the dinghy and row it back to the marina. Maybe next time the dinghy needs to be tied better so the wind does.not donate it to the waters of the bay. I think Jim was test Helga to see how fast she can move on the boat to save the dinghy. She defied age and had the agility and speed of a jack rabbit to catch the dinghy line. Oh yes we did get some sailing in. The Green Rosetta and it's crew sailed around Angel Island towards Alcratraz debating whether Alcatraz is a good spot to drop off the children. We also sailed under Golden Gate Bridge to whale watch and experience some Ocean. This was an awesome experience and really appreciate Jim Helga taking us out.
Our children had a once in a life time experience which we are grateful for. Awesome hospitality, superb breakfasts, great scenery, tasty rums, and best in class sailing . How can one not have a good time and an experience of a life time when you have a wonderful couple such as Jim and Helga. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
    Cheers
We are looking forward to meeting up again to visit our special friends and of course do some sailing and have a first one today. Cheers

A Full House

The whole gang aboard Green Rosetta for a week. In Nevada, a full house has a different meaning, but for a week in July, it was a house, well, a boat, full of people. Green Rosetta is set up to easily accommodate two couples, plus one more person on the bench in from of the table in the salon. This particular week we proved that seven people can be reasonably comfortable living aboard. Usually, Helga and I use the owner's cabin aft and the V berth in the bow is for guests. For the crowd, Helga and I moved out of the owner's cabin with its king size bed, and into the V berth that really is at capacity with two adults. L-R Anna, Ashley, David, Ian, and Austin The plan was to have Anna, David, and Ashley share the big bed and Austin and Ian would figure out who would get the salon couch and who would get the salon floor. Then Ian, who might have been destined for the salon floor, discovered the "hobbit hole", a sitting bench in the owner's cabin that is...

Canadian Invasion: Reinforcements

Foreground: Anna   Background: (L-R) Mary Beth, Barry, Pat (in shadow), David, Rena Ever since his first trip visiting Green Rosetta and sailing her, David has been talking about his sailing buddies, Pat and Barry. Pat has a sailboat on Wabamun Lake west of Edmonton, and Barry and David crew for Pat for racing events. Especially since David and Anna's summer trip when we didn't sail to Monterey in part because we weren't sure exactly how a coastal trip would unfold, it being our first coastal cruise on Green Rosetta , David has been suggesting getting to know these two guys who would enjoy sailing these waters on Green Rosetta.  His thoughts are maybe they could come along on some of our yet-to-be early adventures, covering a possible manpower and experience hole. We planned this weekend as an easy "get acquainted" event. To be fair with the title of this post, neither Pat and Rena nor Barry and Mary Beth are Canadian. They are US citizens who just happen t...
